Welcome to Foundations Reflexology and my personal healing journey blog
What is reflexology? Good question! I wasn't really familiar with it until I had a session with a reflexology practitioner on our beautiful Vancouver Island. This healing modality is embraced and used frequently in other parts of the world but not as well known here at home. Since I have health challenges of my own I thought I would share my own healing journey and experiences in reflexology and tuning therapies.

Reflexology is a recognized form of care in China and some European countries, where it is often provided in hospitals and other health care facilities.
Reflexology is the activation of pressure points or reflexes of the feet/hand and ears. Its basic principle is that these reflexes correspond to different organs, systems and glands in the body and that through the feet the entire body can be balanced and harmonized.
How old is Reflexology?
The earliest record of reflexology comes with the discovery of a hieroglyphic mural in the pyramid located in Saqqara, Egypt in what is known as the Tomb of the Physician. Reflexology is considered as a part of Egyptian culture from 2330 BC. Anecdotal evidence also suggests that some form of Reflexology has been in use in China for thousands of years.
What Can I Expect at a Session?
Reflexology sessions are usually 45 to 60 minutes and can include work on feet, hands, ears or face. You will be seated in a chair with your feet raised or on a table in a peaceful setting. You will have the opportunity to chat or not as the mood strikes you, while your Reflexology practitioner works to treat your whole body through the reflexes of your feet. You may find that your extremities become cold as your body redirects blood flow to your digestive system as it engages the "rest and repair" system in your body.
